I think I have said before that I am severely musically challenged. I can't sing, I can't name songs, I can't even name artists and I definitely can not tell you who sings what. I know, I am a LOSER. Sorry to let you know that.
However, I do like music. I really, really love contemporary christian music. I switch back and forth between J103 and Way FM in my car. Well, on my way to work yesterday morning I was listening to J103 and I heard this guy speaking on losing weight. Mike Weaver from Big Daddy Weave is trying to lose 90 lbs in 09 so this guy was talking about that. Since I am trying to lose a few L-Bs and I really liked what the guy had to say, I went to J103's website and read it. I thought I would share!
From Scott Reall, Founder of Restore Ministries and Author of Journey To Freedom: Power of Vision
There are two types of motivation – one is called extrinsic motivation, the other is called intrinsic motivation. In Journey to Freedom, we work with people who are trying to create a new life for themselves by changing a key part of their lives. We know that the key to sustaining change is maintaining the motivation, for the rest of our lives, always moving towards our new self, our best self that we are in the process of creating with God in the process of change. Here’s what we know about motivation: when a person is motivated by need, they often will settle for a temporary fix. The motivation is an external motivation – what we call extrinsic. For example: “I need to lose 20 pounds because my husband doesn’t like me as much when I am overweight” – this pressure is external. When this external motivation is removed, the change is not permanent and the individual usually falls back into their former habits. But, when the motivation is driven by vision – a vision of becoming the man or woman that God truly wants you to be, becoming your best self – that’s called intrinsic motivation. It’s being driven by this vision of becoming something that is very meaningful to you – “I want to become this man or woman I can see God calling me to be.” It’s as if you and God are in it together. You both want to make you the best you can be. Whenever a person is motivated by vision – these are the people who will keep running and stay in this new lifestyle long after the marathon is over, hopefully for the rest of their lives. So, I would encourage you to understand your vision is not just crossing the finish line in April. You should see crossing that line is the start of the rest of your life. You can see what you are growing in to – the new you, the best you.

I heard about this guy on J103 (or J103 Heather~that is what Madison calls it b/c when they are announcing j103 WEATHER~it is a daily conversation between use EVERY MORNING!). My hubby is on the health kick right now and has lost A TON of weight. B/C of his health kick, it put me on a mandatory health kick. I think I am at about -10 lbs now. 10 down, MANY MANY more to go!
